The municipality of Portaria, belongs to the Prefecture of Magnesia, at the heart of mount Pelion. t is situated at an altitude of 600-800m, at only 10 km distance from the city of Volos, capital of the Magnesia and one of the most important ports in the middle of Greece.
The Prefecture of Magnesia is one of the most privileged in central Greece. The area has been inhabited from the neolithical era, as proven by the ruins of settlements found in the well known archeological sites of Sesklo and Dimini.
Most of the findings, are now exposed at the Archeological Mouseum of the city of Volos.
Mount Pelion, known as the mountain of the Centaurs, spread between the Aegean and Pagasitikos Gulf . It has many picturesque villages, with traditional architecture and stone paved paths known as kalderimia.
Visitors of the area can choose between many beautiful different places, up to the mountain or by the sea, on both sides of Pelion, offering a wide choice for wonerfull holidays.
